Ghana head coach Otto Addo has said the Black Stars were unlucky to lose to Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Friday’s friendly game in Marrakech, Morocco.
The Eagles recorded a first win against the Black Stars since 2006, thanks to goals from Cyriel Dessers (first half penalty) and substitute Ademola Lookman.
Jordan Ayew pulled a goal back deep into stoppage time from the penalty spot for Addo’s men but the Eagles held on to clinch the win.
The four-time AFCON winners had to play most part of the second half with 10 men after Jerome Opoku was shown a straight red card.
It was not the best of start for Addo who returned as Black Stars coach, as his side have now failed to win any of their last six games (three defeats, three draws).

Speaking to ghanafa.org after the game, Addo praised his players for their second half performance
“I don’t like to look too much about the positives because we lost. But I think we were a bit unlucky the way we conceded the first goal as the ball hit the hand but like I said we were unlucky,” he said.
“First half they had the better chances but in the second half we really, really did well. If you want to come to the positive signs, the things we did in the second half with 10 men was good.
“We controlled them; we were a little bit unlucky with the finishing. I think what killed us was their second goal because we were close to actually equalize but in all, a draw would have been deserved but like I said we lost and we have to improve and move on.”
The Black Stars would hope to do better when they face Uganda in another friendly game.
On their part, the Eagles will take on Mali on Tuesday also in Marrakech.

Ondanks de nederlaag blijft Addo optimistisch over de toekomst van het team. Hij gelooft dat de Black Stars nog steeds een sterke kans maken om zich te kwalificeren voor de Afrika Cup en zal blijven werken aan het verbeteren van het spel van zijn spelers.
De fans van de Black Stars waren teleurgesteld over het verlies, maar blijven hun steun betuigen aan het team. Ze geloven dat met hard werken en vastberadenheid, de Black Stars in staat zullen zijn om succes te behalen in toekomstige wedstrijden.
Al met al was de nederlaag tegen Nigeria een bittere pil om te slikken voor de Black Stars, maar coach Addo en zijn team blijven vastberaden om terug te vechten en te laten zien wat ze waard zijn in toekomstige wedstrijden.
