Heartland Assistant Coach, Charles Uzor, has passionately pleaded with the Naze Millionaires’ fans to be patient with the team and trust in the process of transforming the five-time league champions for the better, Completesports.com reports.
Uzor looked dejected after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Ikorodu City FC on Thursday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri. It was a Matchday Seven fixture that Heartland supporters had been confident about before the game.
“It wasn’t the result we expected. We deserved more than one point from this game, but we all saw what happened,” began an emotional Uzor.
“It wasn’t a fair result, but we have to be patient. I mean, our fans must remain patient. Everybody should stand firmly behind the team and trust the process.
“The team is evolving, and everyone saw the game. It can only get better. It’s sad we didn’t get the result we deserved today, but clearly, better days lie ahead.”
Ikorodu City took the lead just four minutes into the game when Salau Yusuf’s header deflected off a defender and into the net.
Heartland launched a series of attacks in response but went into the break one goal down.
The Naze Millionaires had a penalty appeal shockingly dismissed after the Ikorodu City goalkeeper clattered into a goal-bound Heartland attacker—it was unbelievable!
Heartland pushed harder, and Chukwuma Agor equalised with a stunning 25-yard drive, 20 minutes before full time.
To resist Heartland’s pressure, the visitors resorted to time-wasting tactics, frequently falling to the ground. They were reduced to 10 men after Salau Yusuf was sent off for a second yellow card.
Heartland will travel to face Bayelsa United in a Matchday Eight fixture at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, on Sunday.
Uzor hinted that they will fight for the three points in Yenagoa.
“There’s no two ways about it. We’ll fight for the three points, not just in Bayelsa, but in all the upcoming games.”
