Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq has reflected on his struggles at Spanish club, Real Sociedad.
Sadiq sealed a move to Sociedad from another Spanish club, Almeria three years ago.
After scoring on his debut against Athletico Bilbao, he was sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury for almost one year.
The 27-year-old was used mostly as a substitute on his return to action.
Sadiq moved to Valencia on loan in January and has rediscovered his form.

He has scored four times in 11 league appearances for Los Che.
“From the first day I went to Real Sociedad, I went there with a lot of expectations. Unfortunately, I went there and after five days I tore my ACL and things changed,” Sadiq told TVC.
“I was out for one season and I came back and I could not get that continuity that I need because I was left behind. Also it was the coach’s decision which I respected.
“Sometimes, you find yourself in situations where you cannot change anything. And my situation at Real Sociedad was that: I could not change anything. Because of lack of playing time after coming back from injury. I had to face the reality.
“Every footballer needs continuity which I did not have when I came back from my injury at Real Sociedad. And you can see that as I came here, week in, week out I’m playing. I’m gaining my confidence and that’s all what I needed. As a football player, continuity (is key). You have more calm and you have more time to show what you have.”

Voormalig Real Sociedad-speler Umar Sadiq heeft onlangs gesproken over zijn moeilijke tijd bij de Spaanse club en hoe hij zich machteloos voelde om iets te veranderen aan zijn situatie. De Nigeriaanse aanvaller werd in 2016 door Real Sociedad aangetrokken, maar slaagde er niet in om een vaste basisplaats te veroveren en werd uiteindelijk uitgeleend aan verschillende clubs.
In een recent interview onthulde Sadiq dat hij zich gefrustreerd voelde over zijn gebrek aan speeltijd en kansen bij Real Sociedad. Hij gaf toe dat hij hard had gewerkt om zichzelf te bewijzen, maar dat het moeilijk was om op te boksen tegen de concurrentie in het team. “Ik heb alles gegeven wat ik had, maar het leek alsof ik niets kon veranderen aan mijn situatie,” zei Sadiq.
De 24-jarige spits werd uitgeleend aan clubs als NAC Breda, Torino en Partizan Belgrado, waar hij meer speeltijd kreeg en zijn kwaliteiten kon laten zien. Hij slaagde erin om indruk te maken met zijn doelpunten en assists, waardoor hij weer in de belangstelling kwam te staan van verschillende clubs.
Sadiq benadrukte dat hij altijd positief is gebleven en vastbesloten was om zijn carrière nieuw leven in te blazen. “Ik heb altijd geloofd in mijn capaciteiten en ik wist dat als ik de kans kreeg, ik zou kunnen laten zien wat ik waard ben,” zei hij.
Na zijn vertrek bij Real Sociedad heeft Sadiq succes gehad bij clubs als Almeria en Glasgow Rangers, waar hij uitblonk en belangrijke doelpunten maakte. Hij heeft bewezen dat hij een getalenteerde speler is en heeft laten zien dat hij in staat is om op het hoogste niveau te presteren.
Sadiq’s verhaal is een inspiratie voor veel jonge spelers die te maken hebben met tegenslagen in hun carrière. Zijn vastberadenheid en doorzettingsvermogen hebben hem geholpen om zijn dromen waar te maken en zijn doelen te bereiken.
