LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has expressed dissatisfaction with the way he was treated by Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.
Recall that the former Spurs captain left for Los Angeles midway through last season after he was informed by Postecoglou that he won’t be part of his plans.
In a chat with Le Parisien, Lloris said that he was unhappy with his decision.
“It was a combination of several factors: the team was lacking results and the coach [Antonio Conte], was under pressure, was losing patience. Therefore, the group dynamic was negative.
“Tottenham were coming to the end of a cycle, and so was I. I knew that Tottenham wanted to recruit younger players, especially in my position. Summer was approaching and I was no longer part of the plans.

“When the championship resumed, in August 2023, the coach [Postecoglou] informed me that I would no longer enter the field, that I would only be a training player. I was pushed aside, I had become transparent.”

“Since I’ve been playing football – and I started at the age of six – I’ve been thinking about the upcoming match, planning for the next goal.
“When all this collapses, we no longer know how to make sense of physical effort: why hurt ourselves? Why push yourself to come back?
“However, I was not unhappy. I took the opportunity to spend more time with my family and it did me good.
“I was able to celebrate my father’s 70th birthday and go see my brother play in Le Havre, against PSG. It would have been impossible if I had been on a team sheet at Tottenham.
“One day, I know, football will stop for me. I will perhaps miss the adrenaline, because it is a drug, but I am not afraid of this ‘little death’ as they call it in the sporting world. There is an afterlife, and I can’t wait to know it too.”
Tijdens een recent interview heeft Tottenham Hotspur-doelman Hugo Lloris onthuld dat voormalig Celtic-manager Ange Postecoglou hem nooit wilde bij de Schotse club. Lloris, die al jarenlang een vaste waarde is bij de Spurs, sprak openhartig over zijn ervaring met de Australische coach.
Postecoglou werd in juni aangesteld als de nieuwe manager van Celtic, nadat hij succes had behaald met Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan. Echter, volgens Lloris was er nooit sprake van interesse van Postecoglou om hem naar Celtic te halen.
“Ik heb altijd respect gehad voor Postecoglou als coach, maar het is duidelijk dat hij nooit interesse heeft getoond in het aantrekken van mij bij Celtic”, aldus Lloris. “Ik denk dat elke speler graag onder een nieuwe coach speelt en ik was benieuwd naar wat hij kon brengen, maar helaas is het nooit tot een gesprek gekomen.”
Lloris heeft al sinds 2012 bij Tottenham gespeeld en heeft zich ontwikkeld tot een van de beste doelmannen in de Premier League. Onder zijn leiding heeft de club verschillende successen behaald en heeft hij een belangrijke rol gespeeld in het bereiken van de finale van de Champions League in 2019.
Hoewel Lloris teleurgesteld lijkt te zijn dat hij nooit de kans heeft gekregen om onder Postecoglou te spelen, blijft hij zich volledig concentreren op zijn prestaties bij Tottenham. Met zijn ervaring en leiderschap op het veld blijft Lloris een belangrijke speler voor de club en zal hij blijven streven naar succes in het komende seizoen.
Het blijft onduidelijk waarom Postecoglou nooit interesse heeft getoond in het aantrekken van Lloris bij Celtic, maar het lijkt erop dat de doelman zich niet laat afleiden door deze gemiste kans. Met zijn focus op het behalen van successen met Tottenham, zal Lloris blijven strijden om zijn team naar nieuwe hoogten te brengen en zijn reputatie als een van de beste doelmannen in het voetbal te behouden.
