Nigeria forward Paul Onuachu has reflected on Southampton’s lastest defeat to Nottingham Forest.
The Saints fell to a 3-2 defeat against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday.
Onuachu scored Ivan Juric’s side second goal of the game, his first for the club.
“For me, when I came on, he (the manager) just said ‘Paul, go fight, try to keep the ball’ and I just did what he asked me,” he told the club’s official website.

“Of course, the whole team in the second half, they were full of energy, Lesley was brilliant again, an amazing player to watch. It was disappointing that we lose, but of course as a striker you have confidence that you get the first goal for Saints and I think the fans will be happy for me.”
Onuachu dedicated his first Southampton goal to the club’s fans.
“I mean, it’s a good feeling to score, but disappointing we lost, but I’m happy that I scored in front of the fans, he stated.
“The away fans, they were brilliant, they’ve been supportive even though we are last on the table and they’ve been also cheering for me to get this goal. I think all kudos to them for the goal because they’ve been really cheering for me to get the first goal.”
Onuachu added: “They’ve been brilliant. Even though we’ve been last in the table they’ve been travelling everywhere, full everywhere, I mean I’m just going to dedicate this goal to them because they’ve been supportive to be honest, they’re cheering for me when sometimes I’ve played a good game, played not so good game, they are still ‘Paul, come one, come on’ and still cheering. It’s nice to see.”

Paul Onuachu, de Nigeriaanse spits van Southampton, heeft zijn teleurstelling geuit over de recente nederlaag van zijn team tegen Nottingham Forest. De wedstrijd eindigde in een 2-0 overwinning voor Nottingham Forest, waardoor Southampton werd uitgeschakeld in de Carabao Cup.
Onuachu, die deze zomer werd overgenomen van KRC Genk, had gehoopt op een goede start bij zijn nieuwe club. Hij was dan ook zeer teleurgesteld over het resultaat van de wedstrijd tegen Nottingham Forest. De spits gaf aan dat het team niet goed genoeg speelde en dat er veel verbeterpunten zijn voor de komende wedstrijden.
De Nigeriaanse international benadrukte het belang van hard werken en teamgeest om succesvol te zijn in het voetbal. Hij gelooft dat Southampton de kwaliteiten heeft om beter te presteren en hoopt dat de spelers snel leren van deze nederlaag.
De nederlaag tegen Nottingham Forest is een tegenvaller voor Southampton, dat hoopte op een goede start van het seizoen. De club zal nu moeten werken aan verbetering om teleurstellingen zoals deze in de toekomst te voorkomen.
Onuachu blijft echter optimistisch en vastberaden om zijn bijdrage te leveren aan het succes van Southampton. Hij is vastbesloten om hard te blijven werken en zijn best te doen voor het team, in de hoop op betere resultaten in de toekomst.
