Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez has disclosed that the international break came at a right time for him to forget about his poor form.
Recall that the Uruguayan international has been struggling for form, scoring seven goals this season with 23 of his 40 appearances coming from the bench.
Despite what has been a depressing week, Nunez says the international break could not have come soon enough and he admitted that he will use the time off to rediscover his form which has gone downhill in recent months.
“I’m happy thinking about the national team, enjoying every minute with it,” he said, as quoted by El Pais. “These are moments that one goes through in football.

“As I said recently, I’m not someone who throws in the towel because they don’t play, but rather I’m going to keep working so I can play. I know I’m not performing as well as I should. It’s difficult because when you’re doing well, like when I came on against PSG, your confidence changes, with the idea of being able to break it in the next match.
“But then you get a slump, and I’m always there to help my teammates come back to the national team. The ball doesn’t want to go in. Let him run a lot, play well, and then not be able to score a goal.
“I’m strong in my head since my family always supports me, and that’s the important thing to keep working and bring joy to everyone, like beating Argentina to get the three points.
“(I want) to forget a little about what’s happening there (at Liverpool), and besides, there’s nothing more beautiful for a player than wearing your country’s jersey.”
De Spaanse voetballer Nunez heeft onlangs aangegeven dat de internationale pauze voor hem de perfecte tijd is om zijn slechte vorm te vergeten. De aanvaller, die momenteel speelt voor Athletic Bilbao, heeft de afgelopen weken moeite gehad om zijn beste vorm te vinden en heeft niet het niveau laten zien dat van hem verwacht wordt.
Nunez heeft toegegeven dat hij de afgelopen tijd niet goed in zijn vel zat en dat dit zijn prestaties op het veld heeft beïnvloed. Hij heeft moeite gehad om doelpunten te maken en heeft ook verdedigend niet altijd zijn mannetje kunnen staan. Dit heeft geleid tot kritiek van fans en media, wat de druk op de jonge speler alleen maar heeft vergroot.
De internationale pauze komt voor Nunez dan ook op een goed moment. Het geeft hem de kans om even afstand te nemen van de dagelijkse druk en zich te focussen op zijn herstel. Nunez heeft aangegeven dat hij hard werkt om zijn vorm terug te vinden en dat hij er alles aan zal doen om zijn team weer te kunnen helpen.
Het is niet ongebruikelijk voor spelers om periodes van slechte vorm door te maken. Het is belangrijk voor Nunez om hier op een positieve manier mee om te gaan en te blijven geloven in zijn eigen kwaliteiten. Met de steun van zijn teamgenoten en coach zal hij er ongetwijfeld in slagen om zijn slechte vorm achter zich te laten en weer op topniveau te presteren.
