Heartland FC Technical Manager, Emmanuel Amuneke, has commended his players for their resilience and determination in their 1-1 draw against Enyimba in Thursday’s 2024/2025 NPFL matchday 21 clash in Aba, Completesports.com reports.
Amuneke, the 1994 African Player of the Year, praised his players for their spirited performance in the match, stating that it would not have been surprising if they had scored four or five goals in the game.
The 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning coach with the Golden Eaglets expressed satisfaction with securing a point in the tough encounter.

“I’m happy for the boys. They fought hard, showed character, and that’s what sets a player apart—character and the ability to interpret the game both in and out of possession,” said the former Tanzania national team coach.
“I have to be grateful to the boys and say a very big thank you to them.”
Reflecting further on the Oriental Derby, Amuneke described the game as thrilling and competitive.
“It was a very interesting and exciting match from both teams. Enyimba are a big team, and we must acknowledge their achievements in the game over the years,” Amuneke remarked.
“But we came here knowing that if we could tactically manage certain aspects, especially when out of possession, it would be easier for us to win.
“Overall, we could have won the game if we had taken our chances and scored four or five goals. That wouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone.

“But in any case, the important thing is that we picked a point here, and we will continue working hard to strengthen all departments of our game.”
When asked about their upcoming matchday 22 fixture against Rivers United on Sunday in Owerri, Amuneke said they were still savouring their draw against Enyimba and would shift focus to Rivers United upon returning to their base.
“We’re not thinking about Rivers United yet. We just want to enjoy the moment, and when we get back to Owerri, we will start preparing for them,” Amuneke concluded.
