The Toronto Blue Jays have made five roster moves, including the activation of right-handed pitcher Adam Cimber. The moves come as the team looks to bolster its bullpen and improve its chances of making a playoff push.
Cimber, who was acquired from the Miami Marlins in a trade earlier this month, has been added to the active roster after spending time at the team’s alternate training site. The 30-year-old has a career ERA of 3.89 in 152 appearances with the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, and Marlins.
In addition to Cimber’s activation, the Blue Jays have also optioned right-handed pitcher Jacob Waguespack to their alternate training site. Waguespack has struggled this season, posting a 6.75 ERA in four appearances.
The team has also placed left-handed pitcher Anthony Kay on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation. Kay has made three appearances for the Blue Jays this season, posting a 10.80 ERA in 6.2 innings pitched.
To fill the void left by Kay’s absence, the Blue Jays have recalled left-handed pitcher Ryan Borucki from their alternate training site. Borucki has made one appearance for the Blue Jays this season, allowing one run in two innings pitched.
Finally, the team has designated infielder Ruben Tejada for assignment. Tejada appeared in just one game for the Blue Jays this season, going 0-for-1 at the plate.
The Blue Jays currently sit in third place in the American League East with a record of 11-11. The team has struggled with consistency so far this season, but the addition of Cimber and the other roster moves could help provide a boost as they look to make a push for the playoffs.
