Ghana’s Black Satellites head coach Desmond Ofei has expressed his delight after his side avoided Nigeria in the group stage of the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
The West Africans will face hosts Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, and a yet to be determined team from the UNIFFAC region in Group C.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are drawn in a tough group with North African giants, Egypt and Morocco as well as South Africa.

Ghana lost 2-1 to Nigeria in the final of the WAFU B U-20 Championship last year.
Ofei said he is happy his team is not in the same group with the Flying Eagles.
“We’re happy that we’re not in Group B because that’s a very interesting group,” Ofei told Joy Prime Sports.
“I feel like we’re in a position where we can control the narrative of this tournament from our perspective.”

De Ghanese coach is opgelucht dat zijn team de Flying Eagles van Nigeria heeft weten te vermijden in de U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. De Flying Eagles staan bekend als een geduchte tegenstander en hebben in het verleden al meerdere malen laten zien dat ze tot de top van het Afrikaanse voetbal behoren.
De coach van het Ghanese team is dan ook blij dat zijn team niet tegenover de Flying Eagles zal staan in de groepsfase van het toernooi. Hij erkent dat Nigeria een sterk team heeft en dat het altijd lastig is om tegen hen te spelen. Door hen te vermijden in de groepsfase, hoopt hij dat zijn team een betere kans heeft om verder te komen in het toernooi.
Het vermijden van de Flying Eagles betekent echter niet dat het Ghanese team nu achterover kan leunen. Er zijn nog genoeg andere sterke teams in het toernooi die een bedreiging kunnen vormen. De coach benadrukt dan ook het belang van hard werken en focus om succesvol te zijn in het toernooi.
Het doel van het Ghanese team is om ver te komen in de U-20 AFCON en hopelijk zelfs de titel te winnen. Door het vermijden van de Flying Eagles in de groepsfase, hebben ze een goede startpositie om dit doel te bereiken. De coach en zijn spelers zullen er alles aan doen om goed voorbereid te zijn en hun best te doen op het veld.
Al met al is de Ghanese coach blij met het vermijden van de Flying Eagles in de U-20 AFCON, maar hij weet dat er nog een lange weg te gaan is naar succes. Met hard werken, focus en vastberadenheid hoopt hij zijn team naar grote hoogten te brengen in het toernooi.
