Cyriel Dessers says Rangers can be proud of their performance against Fenerbahce in Thursday night’s UEFA Europa League encounter.
Barry Ferguson’s side stunned their hosts 3-1 in Istanbul in the first leg of their Round of 16 contest.
Dessers got a goal and an assist in the thrilling encounter.

The Nigeria international also had two goals ruled out for offside in the second half.
The striker was also excited to score at the popular Şükrü Saracoğlu Spor Kompleksi.
“Overall, I think we can be very happy with this evening. We handled them well. It will not be easy to handle them again next week but you see that we can hurt any team on the counterattack,” the former Feyenoord forward told UEFA.com.
“Its a very nice feeling to score in a stadium like this. For the first goal, I just saw the ball drop between the defender and the goalkeeper and that’s one of those moments as a striker when you have to be sharp.”

Cyriel Dessers, de Belgische spits van Feyenoord, was aangenaam verrast toen hij afgelopen donderdag wist te scoren tegen Fenerbahce in de Europa League. De goal kwam tot stand na een assist van niemand minder dan de legendarische coach José Mourinho, die onlangs werd aangesteld als interim-trainer van de Rotterdamse club.
Dessers, die in de zomer werd overgenomen van Racing Genk, heeft tot nu toe moeite gehad om zijn stempel te drukken bij Feyenoord. Maar tegen Fenerbahce liet hij zien wat hij in huis heeft door een prachtige goal te maken. Na afloop van de wedstrijd was Dessers dan ook dolblij met zijn prestatie en bedankte hij Mourinho voor de assist.
Mourinho, die bekend staat om zijn tactische genialiteit en zijn vermogen om spelers te motiveren, lijkt een positieve invloed te hebben op het team van Feyenoord. Onder zijn leiding wist de ploeg zich te kwalificeren voor de knock-outfase van de Europa League en lijken ze weer op de goede weg te zijn.
De samenwerking tussen Dessers en Mourinho lijkt vruchten af te werpen en het is dan ook te hopen dat de Belgische spits zijn vorm kan vasthouden en belangrijk kan blijven voor Feyenoord in de Europa League. Met Mourinho aan het roer lijkt er in ieder geval genoeg reden tot optimisme voor de Rotterdamse club en haar fans.
