Cyriel Dessers has expressed disappointment with Rangers’ 2-1 loss to Manchester United, reports Completesports.com.
Dessers scored a late equaliser for Phillipe Clement’s side only for Bruno Fernandes to fire home the winning goal for the hosts.
The Nigeria international admitted that the players were sad not to come away with at least point.
“It is difficult to take at the end, especially because of the rollercoaster of emotions at the end,” Dessers told the club’s official website.
“At first you feel that you are going to walk away with a point from Old Trafford and then you let it slip and that hurts.
“I think we can be very proud of the performance, to come here, with a team with a few injuries before the game and then we picked up some more during the game.

“Young guys had to come in and I think they did an unbelievable job, they put in a great shift in work ethic, courage, in playing forward.
“It is only their second or third game at this level and that is a big compliment.
“We thought we had got our reward against a very good team but then it hurts with the result at the end.”
Rangers are still in a strong position ahead of the final group stage game against Belgian side Union Saint-Gillloise at Ibrox next Thursday night.
Dessers hopes they can get the job done to book at least a playoff spot, but he says the squad can take positives from the display at Old Trafford.
“There are positives to take against a good opponent,” he added.
“In the first 70 minutes we didn’t give a lot of chances away and that is a big plus and that is something we need to take with us in the league.
“We are in a strong position in the group and our European adventure has been fantastic until now.
“We have had some great results and hopefully next week we can cap it off with a good result and look ahead to the next stage.”

In een interview na de wedstrijd sprak Dessers over de pijnlijke nederlaag en de impact die het had op het team. “Het is nooit leuk om te verliezen, vooral niet op zo’n manier tegen een topclub als Manchester United”, zei Dessers. “We hebben ons best gedaan, maar het was gewoon niet genoeg. Het is moeilijk te accepteren, maar we moeten hier van leren en sterker terugkomen.”
Dessers benadrukte ook het belang van het blijven geloven in het team en het blijven werken aan verbetering. “We moeten positief blijven en blijven geloven in onszelf”, zei hij. “Dit soort nederlagen kunnen ons alleen maar sterker maken als we er de juiste lessen uit trekken. We moeten blijven werken aan ons spel en blijven streven naar betere resultaten.”
Ondanks de teleurstelling van de nederlaag, toonde Dessers ook zijn waardering voor de steun van de fans. “Het is geweldig om te zien hoe onze fans ons blijven steunen, zelfs na zo’n nederlaag”, zei hij. “Hun steun betekent veel voor ons en we zullen er alles aan doen om hen trots te maken.”
Dessers sloot af met een boodschap van hoop voor de toekomst. “We zullen deze nederlaag achter ons laten en ons richten op de volgende wedstrijd”, zei hij. “We zullen blijven vechten en werken aan ons spel, en hopelijk kunnen we binnenkort weer juichen met overwinningen.”
