Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has adbised the Blues management to sign matured players capable of helping the team succeed in the Premier League.
Recall that the club sit 6th in the league after a 3-0 loss to Brighton at the weekend, they are out of both domestic cups and their only hope of silverware is the Conference League.
In an interview with the club’s website, Lampard feel the transfer strategy needs to change before the average age of the squad is lowered any further which may lead to even further disappointment.
“You have to be very careful to point fingers at the manager himself or point fingers at young players that are trying to find form in a team that hasn’t really got an experienced spine there that they can rely on and look up to,” he said.

“The strategy has been to bring in young players. You’ve got young kids coming over at 21 from another country, trying to fit into a team now. I’m not saying ‘in my day’, but in my day, when you bring in those younger players, they sit themselves on the bench, or they train alongside and watch how competitive it is in training. Watching (Didier) Drogba and how he trains. John Terry and how he leads the club.
“And they )the young players) learn and then they get into the team, or they don’t and they don’t come through at Chelsea. To ask a lot of players to do that at the same time and develop is not an easy thing. I think we’ve got to be very careful.
“The strategy will, of course, be questioned and there probably will have been things that have been done that you can look at now that have been done and think, ‘Could it have been different?’ Yes. It’s getting it right now and changing it but it’s going to be a process.”
Frank Lampard, voormalig speler en huidige manager van Chelsea, heeft recentelijk aangegeven dat hij van mening is dat Chelsea ervaren spelers moet aantrekken in plaats van tieners. Lampard, die zelf jarenlang het shirt van Chelsea heeft gedragen, gelooft dat de club op dit moment behoefte heeft aan spelers met ervaring en leiderschap om succesvol te kunnen zijn.
De opmerkingen van Lampard komen op een moment dat Chelsea zich voorbereidt op een druk seizoen met deelname aan de Premier League, de Champions League en de FA Cup. De club heeft al enkele jonge talenten aangetrokken, zoals Hakim Ziyech en Timo Werner, maar Lampard is van mening dat er ook behoefte is aan spelers die al bewezen hebben op het hoogste niveau te kunnen presteren.
Volgens Lampard is ervaring cruciaal in het moderne voetbal, vooral als het gaat om het behalen van successen op het hoogste niveau. Hij wijst naar clubs als Liverpool en Manchester City, die beide hebben laten zien dat een mix van ervaren spelers en jong talent de sleutel kan zijn tot succes.
Lampard benadrukt echter dat het niet alleen gaat om het aantrekken van ervaren spelers, maar ook om het vinden van de juiste balans tussen ervaring en jeugdigheid. Hij gelooft dat Chelsea nog steeds ruimte heeft voor talentvolle jonge spelers, maar dat deze aangevuld moeten worden met ervaren krachten die de nodige leiderschap en stabiliteit kunnen bieden.
Het is duidelijk dat Lampard vastbesloten is om Chelsea naar succes te leiden en hij is ervan overtuigd dat het aantrekken van ervaren spelers een belangrijke stap is in die richting. Het zal interessant zijn om te zien hoe Chelsea zich verder zal versterken en of Lampard’s strategie vruchten zal afwerpen in het komende seizoen.
