Spanish LaLiga club Celta Vigo have sacked head coach Rafael Benitez after less than nine months.
Celta Vigo announced Benítez’s sacking in a statement on Tuesday.
“Rafa Benitez and his staff leave RC Celta after eight months of absolute dedication and total commitment, but in which the team has not obtained the results expected by the club.
“The club would like to express to Rafa Benitez and his assistants its most sincere gratitude for the honesty and professionalism they have shown since their arrival and the tireless work they have done. RC Celta would also like to wish them the best of luck and success in the future.”

Benitez, who won the Europa League with Chelsea in 2013, joined Celta Vigo on 23 June last year and departs after winning just five of his 28 league matches in charge.
The 63-year-old 2005 UEFA Champions League winner at Liverpool, leaves the club 17th in the Spanish top flight, sitting outside of the relegation zone by just two points.
It was Benitez’s first managerial role since he was fired by Everton in January 2022.
In 33 games in all competitions, Celta managed just nine wins, three of which were against lower-division sides in the Copa del Rey.
His final game with Celta was a 4-0 defeat to another of his former clubs, Real Madrid, on Sunday.

Wat de reden ook mag zijn, het nieuws heeft veel fans verrast en teleurgesteld.
Het ontslag van een succesvolle coach is altijd een risicovolle zet voor een club, aangezien het kan leiden tot onrust in het team en slechte resultaten op het veld. Het is belangrijk voor Celta Vigo om snel een vervanger te vinden die in staat is om het team weer op de rails te krijgen en succes te behalen.
Het is nog onduidelijk wat de toekomst zal brengen voor de ontslagen coach, maar gezien zijn trackrecord en succes in het verleden, zal hij waarschijnlijk snel een nieuwe uitdaging vinden bij een andere club.
