The Confederation of African Football,CAF, will conduct a new draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday (today).
The draw ceremony will hold at CAF’s headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
CAF took the decision following a shift in tournament hosting duties from Côte d’Ivoire to Egypt.
Cote d’Ivoire announce their withdrawal as hosts on on 26 March, 2025 — just weeks before the competition’s scheduled kickoff.
Egypt swiftly stepped in to host the biennial competition.
The 13 teams will be split into three pools, Group A with five teams, and Groups B and C with four.
The top two nations in each pool advance to the quarter-finals, along with the two best third-placed sides.
Hosts Egypt will be in position A1 in the draw, Nigeria, who finished third at the tournament two years ago, in B1 and holders Senegal in C1.

Tunisia, Zambia and Central African Republic, who qualified for the last edition, will be in Pot 1 and drawn into one of the three groups.
The teams that did not qualify for the last edition, Morocco, debutants Sierra Leone, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa and DR Congo, will be in Pot 2. They will be placed in the remaining positions in the pools.
The competition will run from Saturday, 27 April to Sunday, 18 May 2025.
Draw Procedures
Seeded teams: Egypt will be in position A1; Nigeria will be in B1 and Senegal will be C1.
Pot 1 for the teams from Level 2: Tunisia, Zambia and Central African Republic
Pot 2 of the teams of Level 3: Morocco, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa & DR Congo
The teams drawn from Pot 1 will go respectively into positions A2, B2 & C2
The teams drawn from the Pot 2 will go respectively into positions A3, B3, C3, A4, B4, C4 & A5

De Confederation of African Football (CAF) heeft aangekondigd dat er een nieuwe loting zal plaatsvinden voor de U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Caïro. De beslissing om de loting opnieuw te doen komt nadat er enige controverse was ontstaan over de oorspronkelijke loting die eerder dit jaar werd gehouden.
De U-20 AFCON is een prestigieus toernooi waar de beste jonge voetbaltalenten uit Afrika samenkomen om te strijden om de titel van kampioen. Het toernooi dient ook als kwalificatietoernooi voor het Wereldkampioenschap onder 20 jaar.
De oorspronkelijke loting voor de U-20 AFCON werd bekritiseerd vanwege vermeende onregelmatigheden en oneerlijke praktijken. Sommige teams beweerden dat ze opzettelijk werden gekoppeld aan sterkere tegenstanders, terwijl andere teams juist werden bevoordeeld met gemakkelijkere tegenstanders.
Om deze controverse aan te pakken en ervoor te zorgen dat het toernooi eerlijk verloopt, heeft CAF besloten om een nieuwe loting te houden in Caïro. De nieuwe loting zal worden bijgewoond door vertegenwoordigers van alle deelnemende landen, evenals door functionarissen van CAF.
De nieuwe loting zal naar verwachting de spanning en opwinding rondom het toernooi vergroten, terwijl het ook zal zorgen voor een eerlijke en gelijke kans voor alle deelnemende teams. Fans kunnen uitkijken naar een spannend toernooi waar de beste jonge voetbaltalenten van Afrika zullen strijden om de titel van kampioen en een plek op het Wereldkampioenschap onder 20 jaar.
