Victor Okechukwu Agali, a former Super Eagles striker, has spoken highly of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), praising the improvement in both its standard and quality, Completesports.com reports.
“There has been great improvement. Truthfully, the league has improved tremendously at the players’ level, which shows that the coaches are doing a great job,” Agali said when interviewed by Completesports.com.
“And also on the playing field as well. I’m surprised at the stadium I’m seeing now because I remember being here five years ago, and this pitch wasn’t anywhere near what I’m seeing today. So, I must congratulate the people of Imo State for raising the level of this field to this standard.

“And the officiating in the league has improved as well. It’s our game, it’s our country. We all just have to come together to make our football as great as European football. Truly, our league has improved.”
The 45-year-old former Hansa Rostock, Olympique Marseille, and Toulon forward was spotted at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, during the NPFL Matchday-Five fixture between Heartland and Niger Tornadoes.
He pointed out that the future looks promising for the Naze Millionaires, given their style of play.
“Let’s recognise the fact that Heartland is coming from the lower division. The way they play shows that they are adapting to the new philosophy Amuneke is bringing to the team. Some may say they haven’t won yet more games, but remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and in football, sometimes you need an element of luck,” Agali continued.

“Look at Heartland’s early fixtures—they had to face Enyimba, Rivers United, and 3SC, and these are the big names in the league. You don’t expect them to just stroll to victory right away.
“But seeing how they play with confidence and the system they are adopting, I believe the future is bright.”
Agali also revealed his mission in Owerri exclusively to Completesports.com.
“I’m here in Owerri to support Emmanuel Amuneke, whom I’ve known for a long time,” he said.
“My home is not far from here. I’m from Delta State, which is about an hour’s drive away. I watched their game in Ibadan, which was a good one. Unfortunately, they were unlucky because some decisions didn’t go their way.”
