The National Lacrosse League (NLL) has announced that Halifax Thunderbirds player Tyson Bell has been suspended for seven games following an altercation with a fan during a recent game. The incident occurred during a game between the Thunderbirds and the Buffalo Bandits, where Bell allegedly exchanged words with a fan in the stands before throwing his helmet into the crowd.
The NLL takes incidents like this very seriously and has a zero-tolerance policy for player misconduct. In a statement released by the league, NLL Commissioner Nick Sakiewicz stated, “The behavior displayed by Tyson Bell is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in the NLL. We expect our players to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times, both on and off the field.”
Bell has since issued an apology for his actions, stating, “I deeply regret my behavior during the game and I apologize to the fan involved, as well as to my teammates, coaches, and the entire Thunderbirds organization. I understand that my actions were inappropriate and I accept the consequences of my actions.”
In addition to his suspension, Bell has also been fined an undisclosed amount for his actions. The Thunderbirds have stated that they will fully support the league’s decision and will work with Bell to ensure that he learns from this incident and does not repeat such behavior in the future.
This incident serves as a reminder to all players and fans that sportsmanship and respect are paramount in the world of professional sports. The NLL will continue to enforce strict disciplinary measures to ensure that incidents like this do not happen again in the future.
