Gareth Southgate has reportedly admitted he is likely going to step down as England Head Coach if the Three Lions fail to win the 2024 European Championship this summer.
Manchester United are believed to be planning a move for the 52-year-old, whose last club managerial stint was at Middlesbrough in 2009. The Red Devils are yet to decide the fate of Erik ten Hag following an underwhelming season which was capped with an FA Cup triumph over neighbours, Manchester City.
Southgate doubts his future with England citing the impatience of fans as a factor.

“If we don’t win, I probably won’t be here anymore,” Southgate said to German outlet BILD as reported by Daily Mail.
“So maybe it is the last chance. I think around half the national coaches leave after a tournament – that’s the nature of international football.
“I’ve been here almost eight years now and we’ve come close. You can’t constantly put yourself in front of the public and say, ‘A little more please,’ as at some point people lose faith.
“If we want to be a great team and I want to be a top coach, you must deliver in big moments.”

England are set to face Slovenia, Denmark, and Serbia in the group stage of Euro 2024. Southgate would hope to make a statement with the Three Lions in the group phase and send a message to other top contenders in the competition.
The 1966 World Cup winners are the top favourites to win the Euro 2024 title according to the Opta Analyst.

Gareth Southgate, de huidige bondscoach van het Engelse nationale voetbalteam, heeft gesuggereerd dat hij zou overwegen om zijn positie te verlaten als Engeland niet presteert bij het Europees kampioenschap voetbal in 2024. Southgate, die sinds 2016 aan het roer staat van het nationale team, heeft de harten van de Engelse fans veroverd met zijn tactische aanpak en zijn vermogen om jonge talenten te laten schitteren op het internationale podium.
Het nieuws van Southgate’s mogelijke vertrek komt op een moment dat er geruchten circuleren over een mogelijke baan bij Manchester United, een van de grootste voetbalclubs ter wereld. De positie van hoofdcoach bij de club is momenteel vacant na het ontslag van Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eerder dit seizoen.
Southgate heeft in het verleden laten doorschemeren dat hij geïnteresseerd zou zijn in een terugkeer naar het clubvoetbal, nadat hij eerder in zijn carrière als coach bij Middlesbrough werkte. Manchester United, met zijn rijke geschiedenis en enorme fanbase, zou een aantrekkelijke optie kunnen zijn voor de ervaren coach.
Het is echter belangrijk op te merken dat Southgate momenteel nog steeds volledig gefocust is op zijn taak als bondscoach van Engeland en dat hij vastbesloten is om het team naar succes te leiden op het Europees kampioenschap in 2024. Het is duidelijk dat zijn prioriteit ligt bij het nationale team en dat hij er alles aan zal doen om ervoor te zorgen dat Engeland goed presteert op het toernooi.
Of Southgate daadwerkelijk zal vertrekken als bondscoach en een baan bij Manchester United zal nastreven, blijft voorlopig nog onduidelijk. Maar één ding is zeker: de voetbalwereld zal nauwlettend in de gaten houden hoe deze ontwikkelingen zich zullen ontvouwen en of Southgate uiteindelijk de overstap zal maken naar clubvoetbal.
